SK Virtual Visit has a feature for recording virtual meetings or the patient consultation video chats. This provides healthcare providers a video record for future reference. This may be helpful for consultation notes, audit enquiries or to simply backtrack to previous appointments.
As a default, this feature is disabled and requires a request to your HSP to be turned on. If enabled, it will be available for ALL healthcare providers within the same virtual clinic.

Who can record:
Only host clinicians or participants from the same virtual clinic have the ability to record the video meetings or patient consultations. Patients do not have access to 'Record'.
The host will start and stop the recording.
Once all participants are no longer present within a video meeting or consultation, the recording will stop automatically.
Will the patient be informed that they are being recorded and able to give consent?
Yes, when the healthcare provider starts to record the meeting or consultation video chat, the patient will be notified with a banner on their screen, stating 'Video Recording Started'. They will have the option to 'Leave Video' or 'Continue' .
A 'Recording' message will appear at the top of the video screen during recording and will disappear once recording has stopped.
Where will I be able to access the recordings?
All recordings are stored within the platform and are located on secure servers within Canada. In the SK Virtual Visit system, recordings can be accessed under:
- Patient Consultations: Consultations > Completed OR Consultations >Active & Pending
- 'Meet Now' Meetings: Meet Now > Past Meetings
Who can access this information?
The host healthcare provider who recorded the meeting or patient consultation video chat, as well as their office administrator have access to past meetings/patient consultations and recordings.
How long are recordings kept?
Recordings are usually kept as per the requirements for each clinic, the default requirement being seven (7) years; however this can be changed, if needed. Recordings are stored within the platform and are located on secure servers within Canada.
Could these videos be subpoenaed in court?
It is recommended that you speak with the privacy team with Saskatchewan Health Authority and your licensing body to determine the above.
